Identification of stakeholders
To translate knowledge and leverage project findings to feed effective and timely policy-making a multi-pronged communication strategy will be implemented for effective engagement of stakeholders and end users, identified at various levels.
At the macro level, valuable collaborators for dissemination and dialogue include stakeholders such as policymakers (including concerned government bodies and officials at country, state, city and local level), UN Agencies, Swedish governmental agencies, Business Sweden, international NGOs and private agencies. At the meso level, academics from the domains of health, environment and urban planning will be critical stakeholders. The developed novel modelling methods with harmonized daily air pollution and temperature estimates for a 12 year time period will be applicable for researchers from different disciplines. The benefit for scientists investigating the association between health and environment will be demonstrated within the project duration and we envisage that the products we develop will be of value for epidemiologists, ecologists, exposure assessment scientists, spatial and urban planners, and climate scientists.
Potential end users of this project are also envisioned at the micro-level including community members, civil society organizations, citizen welfare and advocacy groups, and media. Health communication is a pivotal pathway for informing citizens about the severity of the issue of air pollution, providing cues to action that can motivate them to adopt healthy behaviors and disseminating strategies to cope with emerging health concerns. The interactive digital tools will also encourage discussion on addressing local risk factors and solutions that might be applicable in specific contexts. Air pollution is a global health risk that calls for scaling up capacity building initiatives that equip large vulnerable population under threat, with tools to analyze data and understand the local air quality levels, identify threats to health in their immediate environment.
This project presents an integral interface for stakeholders from Sweden, India and other LMICs to strengthen knowledge flows and capacity building in the domain of health effects of air pollution and climate change.
We also plan further activities to provide exchange and knowledge transfer to young scientists and researchers in LMICs. We will offer courses to strengthen skills related to the project including within air pollution and temperature modeling, environmental epidemiology, geographical information systems, and advanced biostatistics such as causal modelling and mediation analysis.
